PolyWin Protector™: For the Savvy Homeowner
In the path of the storm, here is what’s at stake.
Because windows and doors can be weak areas on dwellings and vulnerable to wind penetration, these areas should be protected to minimize damage and the potential for a total loss.
Broken window glass can cause a house to become pressurized, like blowing air into a balloon. External positive wind pressure (outside to inside) causes windows to shatter and allows internal negative wind pressure (inside to outside) to push on walls and roof systems causing them to become compromised and eventually collapse leading to total loss of the structure.
Impact-resistant windows are expensive, often doubling the cost of traditional windows and may create dangerous scenarios where windows cannnot be broken by emergency personnel during a fire rescue. Plywood boards may be difficult to install and potentially damage your exterior siding with nail or screw holes which can add costly repairs after removal.
Easy Installation.
The PolyWin Protector (PWP) can be installed before storms and removed after or left in place for extended periods of time. Homeowners can be secure in knowing that the PWP has been tested at the National Certified Testing Laboratory and results showed that the panel performed well under uniform load structure testing.
Using the ASTM E330-14 test method, the panel withstood 57.6 psf which is equivalent to the force generated by 150 mph winds without breaking, cracking or dissociation of any kind.
